Anyone who has ever tried dieting is sure to be cringing right about now. Why? The general go-to for “healthy snack options” is “Eat a carrot instead!” Sure, it’s healthy. But day after day, snack after snack…CARROTS!
Now don’t get me wrong here! I love carrots. I eat them all the time. But when carrot sticks seem to be the only option when you’re hungry between meals, they get boring… FAST!!!
The same goes for celery sticks. Apples. Bananas. You can only eat a plain fruit or vegetable so many times before you don’t ever want to see it again!
So what can we do?
Find A Healthy Snack That’s Fun!
We all know that fruits and vegetables are good for us. And on occasion, they even make a fun snack. Just not every day.
But what if we could make fruits and vegetables fun every day? That would be great, right? Not only are they good for the body, as they’re loaded with vitamins and minerals, but they’re low calorie.
How do we make them fun? How do we make sure we don’t get sick of them?
Do you like juice?
How about smoothies?
The options are endless for both! And even with the same group of ingredients you can change it up on a daily basis. Lots of apple in today’s smoothie? Try lots of banana tomorrow. The day after that, go heavy on the berries!
But Buying Healthy Juices And Smoothies Is Expensive!
You won’t get any argument here! It’s almost $8 (last time I checked) for a 64 oz. bottle of smoothie at the grocery store. That’s a lot of money, and not a lot of smoothie.
You can buy a pretty big pile of fruits and vegetables for $8, though
Apples run around $1-$1.50 a pound. Maybe a little more for some of the “fancy” varieties
Bananas are downright cheap!
“But berries are expensive!”
Fresh ones are. But if you go to the freezer aisle you can probably buy a two pound bag of mixed berries for $2-$3. And you don’t need a lot of berries to make a smoothie, so that bag could last you a couple weeks. Maybe even a month!
“I’ve tried making smoothies in my blender. They come out too chunky.”
A Blender That Actually Makes A “Smooth” Smoothie!
Have you ever heard of the NutriNinja? It’s an amazing line of products. They really do perform like you see on TV.
Put in your fresh fruits and vegetables. Then your frozen fruits. Then yogurt or juice if your recipe calls for it. Twist on the cap. Put the jar on the base. Push go. 45 seconds later you’ve got a home-made, healthy smoothie.
Need some extra protein? Toss in some seeds or nuts. Maybe a spoonful of peanut butter. How about a scoop of protein powder?
Peanut butter banana smoothie? You can make that.
Strawberry banana? No problem!
Apple berry? Sure thing!
Look up any flavor combination you want on the Internet, and there’s sure to be a recipe floating around out there.
If you’re really brave, just start tossing fruits and veggies together! Who knows, you could hit on something amazing!
NutriNinja Has A Ton Of Options. Which One?
Honestly, they’re all good. I’ve had a few different ones. The one I currently use, and my favorite so far, is the NutriNinja Auto-iQ Blender (Check out the review here).
It works just as described above.
It comes with recipes.
It will not disappoint.
And you’ll be able to make delicious, healthy snacks directly in the to-go-cup blender canister. Yeah! The blender canister is actually the cup. Just unscrew the blender lid, and replace it with the drink top!
Replacing Bad Snacks With Good Ones Can Be FUN!
Although I enjoy a plain old carrot stick or a simple apple every now and then, you won’t find me chomping on plain fruits and vegetables every day. Why would I when there is so much more variety available in a smoothie?
The convenience of making them at home just makes it all that much better. You don’t have to go to the “Smoothie Shop” and pay $5 for a snack. You can skip the $8 bottle of smoothie at the grocery store that will only last you a couple days.
Fill that cart with fruits and vegetables, and just consider the possibilities! So many fun combinations to be made! So many delicious snacks to drink!
Remember, this is just one possibility for a healthier snack. There are plenty more. I’m sure I’ll add more later. In the meantime, have yourself a smoothie! Or think of your own creative way to make healthy eating fun!
